Web API allows you to easily add Navionics maps on any website. Using our Web API, you can embed the same localized data your customers are viewing on their mobile devices and chartplotters along with your customized content to highlight the marine related services you offer.

Can I use the API charts with Google or Bing Maps?

Yes, you can integrate the Navionics API within a third party viewer.

Does the API allow access to the Navionics Platinum products?

No, the API only accesses the Navionics Gold level marine charts and Hot Maps Premium USA lake maps.

Can I use the API in a subscriber (Fee based) web site?

Not at this time. We are evaluating the possibility of a fee based product.

Will the API accept tracks from my plotter?

No, the API currently does not accept tracks from a plotter.

What programming language is used for the API?

Javascript and basic knowledge of Openlayer framework is required.

Do I need programming skills to use the API?

Yes, web programming skills are required to use the API?

Is there a fee for use of the API?

No, the API and use of the Navionics maps are free.

Does the API support GPS?

No, we do not support GPS or tracking features and the data cannot be used for Navigation.

What is the map projection used by Navionics?

Navionics Mercator. This projection will overlay with Google and Bing maps except when you get close to the north and south poles.

Q. Can I add my own third party data such as marinas?

A. Yes, the API allows for placement of your third party data such as marina locations, fishing spots, etc.

Q. Can I use the online maps with my mobile and PC based application?

A. No, we currently do not allow for support of our API for mobile and PC based applications. Of course users can still access your web site from a PC or mobile device browser and view our maps on your site.

Can I zoom out to view the entire earth?

No, our map engine only allows your users to view the maps at a continent level view.

Why is Canada and Denmark missing the Navionics detail?

Navionics will use Hydrographic data along with many other sources to build our maps and some countries currently restrict the use of their data in a free based internet product.

Is the map data stored on our servers?

No, the map data is stored on our servers.

What is a domain name?

We require all partners to submit their domain names so that we can issue a key to access our charts. A domain name is simply your Internet address of your web site where you want to display the Navionics charts and lake maps. It is the sequence of words, phrases, abbreviations, or characters that serves as the Internet address of a computer or network. Example: www.navionics.com is our domain name.
