    • Q. What is the difference between Classic & Gold Charts?

      A. Both Classic Charts & Gold Charts provide the same basic navigation and fishing information. However, Gold Charts offer some additional features. Most noticeably, Gold Charts look more like a paper chart, complete with shaded depth contours, colored light sectors and real-world shapes and colors of buoys and navaids. Another new feature of Gold Charts is "Xplain", a plain-language description feature that, with just a click of the cursor, deciphers confusing navigational symbols into plain-language everyone can understand. To verify your chartplotter's compatibility, please feel free to download a compatibility guide: Americas | Europe-Asia-Oceania-Africa-Polynesia.

    • Q. Can I use Navionics NavPlanner (Europe-Asia-Oceania-Africa-Polynesia users) or NavPlanner2 (Americas users) software with my Navionics Classic Charts to pre-plan my routes and waypoints on my PC at home?

      A. No NavPlanner & NavPlanner2 are compatible with most Navionics products, but are compatible with neither Classic Charts nor HotMaps Classic Lake Maps.

    • Q. Are Navionics Classic Charts PC and Mac compatible?

      A. No.  Classic charts are programmed onto a media/chip format that is not compatible with any Navionics-supported PC or Mac software. To use Navionics charts on your PC or Mac, please see our GoldPlatinum+, or HotMaps Chart portfolios.

    • Q. Do electronic charts replace paper maps?

      A. The electronic chart is an aid to navigation designed to facilitate the use of authorized government charts, not to replace them. Only official government charts and notices to mariners contain all information needed for the safety of navigation, and as always, the captain is responsible for their prudent use.
