Navionics Pro Spotlight: Kota Kiriyama, Professional Bass Angler

Kotaro Kiriyama—better known as Kota—grew up in Narita City in Chiba, Japan. He has always enjoyed bass fishing, but it wasn’t until he was working for a Japanese lure maker while living in California that he had a chance to compete in bass tournaments. In 1998, he fished his first Bassmaster tournament: the B.A.S.S. Western Divisional on Lake Havasu in Arizona. He’s fished in over 150 Bassmaster and FLW tournaments since then, with 20 top ten finishes. Now a Bassmaster Elite Pro, Kota earned his first Bassmaster Classic berth in 2000 where he placed 4th, and has made five more Classic appearances since. When not fishing, he runs a tournament called Kota’s American Dream which he established in 2008. It effectively ties together his home country and his life in America by bringing the winning anglers of a Japanese fishing derby to America to compete in the BassCat Owners’ tournament in Arkansas
