"Chart the Rock” campaign in Norway

28 April 2014Category:KarteverketChart the rockChartscommunity EditsNorway

The Norwegian Hydrographic Office (Kartverket) high-lighted the presence of 35,000 rocks that are not charted, which could take as much as 30 years to map.

Navionics runs “Chart the Rock” campaign aimed at accomplishing the task of having this job done this season! Giuseppe Carnevali, Founder and President of Navionics, is directly involved with the campaign (view video).

With any Navionics app, or with the newest Navionics Boating app, users can map the dangerous rocks in record time. Anybody can make contributions using the Community Edits feature, which allows the user to inject additional, unchartered information, like rocks!

All data collected via Community Edits will appear immediately on any Navionics app and will also be available in a day or two for charts on GPS chartplotters via Freshest Data.  All information will be transmitted to Kartverket, which will use it to modify, over time and after a second level verification, the official hydrographic office charts.

ANY boater can join us in charting the rocks TODAY!

Get Navionics Boating for free searching “Navionics Boating” on the iTunes App Store for iPhone or iPad, or on the Google Play Store for Android devices. Shop for “Norway” chart coverage from a global catalogue within the app and contribute!
