Denmark opens to sonar log recording

The Denmark Hydrographic Office recently lifted all restrictions on sonar log recording by recreational boaters in Danish waters. This means that, from Bornholm to Skagerrak and from Kattegat to the Faroe Islands, it is now allowed to record sonar logs and send them to Navionics. Previously, SonarChart™ HD bathymetry map was available in this area, but it could not be enhanced by any recordings submitted by individuals.

Navionics integrates sonar logs recorded by users, either through their plotter or mobile device, with existing data to ensure SonarChart™ reflects the ever-changing conditions of sea, lake and river bottoms.
The value of recording sonar logs and sending them to Navionics to enhance SonarChart™ is widely recognized worldwide because it allows a new awareness of shallow waters and a detailed bottom description for any sea or inland waters. Navionics is receiving a large quantity of contributions by boaters all over the world recorded using their Humminbird, Lowrance, Raymarine, Simrad, B&G and Garmin plotters, and even from mobile devices, recorded with the SonarPhone T-BOX by Vexilar.  Mobile sonar log recording also allows the amazing new SonarChart™ Live feature.
Sonar log recording with plotters or mobile devices is engaging a massive crowd of boaters, either fishermen, sailors or cruisers almost everywhere in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Middle East, Australia and New Zealand.  Whilst Denmark is now open to sonar log recording, restrictions due to local regulations still apply in a few north European countries, namely Sweden and Norway, which do not allow at sea, and Finland, which restricts both at sea and inland. For details about why sonar log recording is not allowed in these countries or to help it become authorized, you may contact the Ministry of Defense of Sweden ([email protected]), Norway ([email protected]) or Finland ([email protected]).
The news about sonar log permissions in Denmark comes with another update for the country: Navionics very recently added the Nautical Charts of more than 190 new Danish lakes, a great benefit for inland water boaters and fishermen, in particular those who can record sonar logs to help turn Nautical Charts into SonarChart™ and continue improving them.  Find the full list here.
So, any Danish boater or anyone who is familiar with these waters is welcome to join the global SonarChart™ crowdsourcing community today in Denmark.  Enjoy SonarChart™ in your area and don’t miss the opportunity of enhancing your charts by recording and sending the sonar logs of your journey!
SonarChart™ is included with the following plotter cards: Navionics+, Platinum+ and HotMaps Platinum. To get it on Gold or HotMaps Premium, customers can purchase Navionics Updates. On mobile and PC, SonarChart™ is included in the chart package on the Navionics Boating app found on Apple, Android and Windows stores.
