IPC Media, owner of IBI magazine in the UK, has announced the shortlists for its inaugural Marine Awards, which take place on Friday, January 6, 2006 at Old Billingsgate, London, England.

Commenting on the announcement, chair of judges Kim Hollamby said: "It took many hours of consideration to focus on who should be included in the final nominations. These decisions are based upon the tests and real life experiences of our editorial teams and magazine and website readers, which considerably enhanced the process. We now look forward to the next round of judging with the participation of the RYA, BMF and YJA."

The Navionics Platinum is among the 6 finalists in the Marine Product of the Year - Electronics category. "I look forward to congratulating the winners with their trophies on the night. We will also be revealing the winner of a special editor's award recognizing a product that we all agree has made a significant impact in its sector." Hollamby said.

In addition, Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal will be presenting the Raymarine YJA Yachtsman of the Year Award — the 50th year of this prestigious trophy.

The Platinum nomination at IPC comes on the heel of Platinum being nominated and subsequently awarded at the prestigious DAME award last week in Amsterdam. In fact, the multi-dimensional Platinum cartography seems to be sweeping the awards in almost every competition that it enters.

"Everyone at Navionics is extremely proud to receive this prestigious nomination," said Claudio Zimarino, The European Area Manager at Navionics SpA. "Platinum represents a real improvement for plotter users effectively bridging the gap between the abilities of the weather-vulnerable PC and the dedicated marine chartplotter."

Platinum provides large coverage areas, 3D bathymetric views, satellite photography, panoramic port photographs, U.S. Coastal piloting text guides, a wreck database, coastal roads and enhanced port services information.

Platinum is the first multi-dimensional charting and navigation product available for embedded marine chartplotters. Based on the best-selling Navionics Gold charting platform, Platinum incorporates geo-referenced charting, cruising guides and photographic images that can be blended on a single screen.

Navionics products are available at marine, boating and sporting goods stores throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Oceania.
