Cartography Leader Recognized at MAATS Award Ceremony

Wareham, Mass. & Las Vegas, NV – Navionics, the leader in electronic charting and navigation data, announced today that Platinum, its flagship cartography, took the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) Innovation Award for the 2005 Electronics Category. A panel of seven judges comprising of members of the Boating Writers International chose the innovation winners based on criteria established by the Boating Writers Association and the NMMA. The award, created “To bestow recognition and honor upon those whose names and deeds are synonymous with pursuit of quality, innovation, and perfection within the sphere of their expertise, and those who have or continue to make substantial and lasting contributions toward the advancement of the marine industry,” was presented at the 2005 MAATS Convention in Las Vegas.

“Navionics’ Charting System dissolves charts into a satellite photo of the local area, enabling navigators to see features that may not be visible on an ordinary chart,” the judges wrote. “So if there is a water tank that is not visible on a chart, the Charting System can locate the tank allowing the boater to easily take a bearing.”

“Navionics is very proud to receive this prestigious award,” said Bob Moshiri, vice president of sales and marketing, Navionics. “Platinum is changing the way boaters look at and use their cartography, and the industry recognition is a true testament to our product vision.”

Platinum electronic cartography provides up to 16 times more information than competitors’ technology, and is the first multi-dimensional charting and navigation product available for embedded marine chartplotters. Based on the well-known Navionics Gold charting platform, Platinum incorporates geo-referenced charting, cruising guides and photographic images that can be blended on a single screen.

Platinum provides large coverage areas, 3D bathymetric views, satellite photography, panoramic port photographs, U.S. Coastal piloting text guides, a wreck database, coastal roads and enhanced port services information.

Platinum and other Navionics products are available at marine, boating and sporting goods stores throughout the United States and Canada. For more information about Navionics, Platinum and its entire product line, contact 800-848-5896 (toll-free) or visit www.navionics.com.
