Team Navionics plans to return to the Wal-Mart FLW Striper Series in 2007. Coming off a strong 7th place finish in 2006 with a combined weight of 32.03lbs, Shaun Ruge of Team Navionics will combine forces with 3rd place finisher (33.5lbs) Capt. Terry Nugent of Riptide Charters and fellow team member Mike Ciolek Jr. of Team Riptide to compete for a $30,000 prize on September 22. Team Riptide also competed in last years Wal-Mart FLW Striper Series championship in Virginia Beach. Launching out of the Bass River in West Dennis Massachusetts, Team Navionics hopes to move up this year to claim top honors with the help of fellow team members and boat owner David Nilson and Andrew Nilson.
There are four events in the Wal-Mart FLW Striper Series scheduled for 2007 - May 19th in Highlands New Jersey, June 16th in New London Connecticut, September 22 out of West Dennis Massachusetts, and December 8th in Virginia Beach. A field of 100 boats will compete for a total of $340,000 in single day events where 2 striped bass between 28 and 34 inches can be weighed in per team.
With over 100 years of combined fishing experience Team Navionics hopes to place well in several tournaments including the Oak Bluffs Run and Gun, ESPN Monster Shark, Boston Harbor Shootout, and ASA events. Team Navionics will use two Hydrasport center console vessels during the 2007 season. Riptide, a 24 foot single engine owned by Capt. Terry Nugent and the FinChaser, a 29 foot twin engine owned by David Nilson. Both boats are constructed on high performance Vector Hulls and a combined 750 HP of Evinrude E-Tec happiness. Both boats run Furuno and Raymarine electronics along with Navionics Gold+, Fish N’ Chip, and Platinum cartography.
