Driven by a passionate commitment to support our customers’ enjoyment on the water, Navionics continues enriching its chart coverage to include or update popular boating and fishing areas around the world.

In this continuous product enhancement effort, sometimes, our path crosses with others that are driven by the same desire to provide boaters and fishermen with the best detailed charts. In this particular case, we have recently partnered with the “Corporation de gestion du réservoir Gouin” (Corporation for the Management of the Gouin Reservoir) to update this immense body of water.

The Gouin Reservoir covers an area of 1,800 km² and is visited every year by 14,600 anglers. With such an enormous territory, come great challenges to navigation: high-bottoms, rocks, a multitude of islands, and a micro-climate which creates intense weather conditions. The « Corporation de gestion du réservoir Gouin » and Navionics have therefore partnered to add a multitude of landmarks, protected areas, outfitters to the charts and most importantly to start a SonarChart update project based on the constant contribution of sonar logs by wildlife conservation officers and technicians that are out in the field every day.

“This project will enable fishermen and boaters alike to enjoy their experience on the Gouin to the fullest. […] Additionally, the sonar logging project will permit our biology team to better understand the walleye spawning grounds – an essential aspect of protecting the Gouin Reservoir’s excellent quality of sport fishing.” says Raphael Dubé, General Director of the Corporation.
