Boating App: Meet on the Water with the Connections Feature

The latest Boating app update is here1, and it offers a new feature that will help you keep in touch with your friends. With the new Connections feature, you can connect with people from the Garmin and Navionics® communities. You will be able to easily meet on the water or check out each other’s adventures by sharing your live locations.

Connect with the community

Connections allows you to be even closer with the community that shares your same passions. You can create a network of friends among thousands of people who love fishing, diving, kayaking, boating and sailing from all over the world.

In the Connections area, accessible from the app Menu, you can easily look for people you know using the search bar. You also can quickly manage connection requests and check your connections list.

Share your live location – a multipurpose feature

Once you’ve connected with people, you can conveniently share your live location2 for up to 24 hours. Whatever your passion is, this feature can help you in a variety of situations.

If you go out boating or kayaking with a group, all the people present can share their live position with each other’s simultaneously. So if someone gets lost or is out of sight, they can easily find their way back to the group. To share your live position, go to Menu and tap Show on Map under My GPS coordinates, then press Share Live Location. Here you will be able to choose multiple people among your connections.

Did your fishing buddy send you their live position to a place where fish just can’t stop biting? To quickly join them, just open the live positions and tap the button “Boat to.” The app will generate an automatic suggested route that can be followed easily so you can make great catches together.

Also, you can share your live position with your family and friends so they can keep an eye on you for peace of mind.

These are just some of the ways you can use this feature, but we are sure you will find many more uses that will make your time out on the water even better.

With this release, we’ve also aligned our app names, removing the word “HD” from the Android™ version. No worries. The app is still the same.
