Driven by a passionate commitment to support our customers’ enjoyment on the water, Navionics continues enriching its chart coverage to include popular boating and fishing areas around the world.
We’ve recently completed an extensive update to New Melones Lake, located in the central Sierra Nevada foothills of California. By integrating newly acquired multibeam survey data, we were able to improve contours throughout the lake, and add a great deal of near-shore detail where low pool levels prevented access during earlier surveys. The 1’ contour detail now extends deeper into areas such as the northern reaches of the Stanislaus River and the Peoria Wildlife Area at the southern end of the lake.
Much of the lake is hundreds of feet deep, and there are plenty of areas to troll for rainbow trout or kokanee salmon. The ample structure, such as points and ledges along shallower waters, makes New Melones Lake a tremendous largemouth bass fishery. In fact, you’ll find a number of fishing spots marked as Community Edits within our Boating app north and west of the Tuttletown Recreation Area. As part of this update, we also carefully analyzed and adjusted the shoreline, perfect areas to cast for crappies and bluegill.
